Research Memo

Hypothesis:
Why are there laws against gay marriage? Many states have laws against gay marriage and some do not; this topic is very controversial and everyone has their own opinion on it; some are for it and some are against it. People protest and fight everyday for their and others rights to be able to marry the same sex; I believe that people should be able to marry whoever they want because it’s not their fault for falling in love with someone of the same sex. Many of people are against it because of their religion and say that in the “Bible” it says that a man and woman should be married; well God made you who you are and loves you for the person you are.
Context:
My target audience is everyone; the person could be whoever because I wanted to get as many diverse opinions as possible. The respondents that were chosen were based on getting a diverse group of people to express their views on the survey/topic. The results of this survey are reliable and valid because they were taken from random people whose opinions I did not know. My information is not biased at all, because all of the information and results were taken straight from random people and not myself.

Question 2
Question 3
Question 4
Question 5
Question 7
Question 8
Question 9
Response
25 out of 25 said yes
Everyone said 10
Most people said that they do support it. They all know someone gay.

Everyone said true
Most everyone said D. 80%
20 out of 25 said yes
A lot of people said that they would feel like they didn’t matter.
2 out of 25 people said yes.

Data Analysis:
Most people believe in Gay Marriage Rights; no one said that they thought that people of the same sex shouldn’t be married. When people answered question number ten on the survey most everyone came back with a defensive reply; they basically all said that they would fight for the right to marry whoever they wanted. When asked question number nine only two out of twenty-five people said yes, it was a shocking discovery to find that someone actually knew someone who committed suicide because of it.
Conclusion:
From doing my survey I concluded that there are laws against gay marriage because people are just ignorant. Most people really don’t mind gay couples, even if they don’t believe in it. A lot of people do support it, and most people think that gay marriage should be legal.
Follow Up:
What should be done next is find people who don’t support gay marriage and have them give me their opinion on the matter and why they think it should stay illegal.
